GAMES 10-13 year olds
Pictionary is a classic game of drawing and guessing pictures. The judge prepares a one-minute timer (or stopwatch) and gives the player a word. The child draws a word from the hat/ bag and gets ready to start drawing. The judge says “Go!” and starts the timer. The player begins to draw a picture of the word. The goal is for the group to correctly guess the word (or basic idea of the word) within the allotted time limit. If the team correctly guesses the word, they receive a point. Then it’s the next team’s turn.
Tips: Split into at least two teams. Stick the papers up on the wall or on a whiteboard or just play sitting in a circle on the floor. Tell the kids to not let anyone see their word, you can let them trow it into another holder to ensure no one peeks.
Recommended setting: Indoors.
Materials required: Several sheets or two large pads of paper, notecards, pens/ koki's, a stopwatch/ timer. Hat or bag with words (from printout).
What to prepare beforehand: Cut out the words on the printouts and put them in a hat or bag so that the kids need to reach in to grab a word. Stick the papers up on the wall or have a book of paper and pens/ koki's ready to play.
colour memory game
Let each child trace their hands onto paper plates. One plate for the left hand and one for the right. Let them roughly colour the hands in with a colour Koki, crayon or colour pencil, each child to have a different colour (try to use easy to recognise primary and secondary colours). You should thus have x2 yellow, x2 red, x2 blue plates etc..
Mix the plates up and spread it out on the floor. Hand facing downwards. The first child to go, select two plates and turn it over. If they match in colour, the player can keep the plates. If not, place the plates back into the same spot hand facing downwards. It's the next players turn. Turn one colour, and then next and see if you can get a match. Players keep taking turns until all the plates are gone. If it's too easy, add more colours and plates.
The goal of the game is to get the most matches.
Charades involves acting out words or phrases written on a piece of paper. The object is to get your team to guess the answer using gestures alone. That's right, when a player is acting out the word or phrase, they aren't allowed to talk! PIN THE TAIL/ horn/ spots
This is an old classic. A picture of an animal with a missing tail is stuck to a wall within easy reach of children. One at a time, each child is blindfolded and handed a paper "tail" with a piece of Prestik stuck to the back. The blindfolded child is then spun around until he or she is disoriented. The child gropes around and tries to pin the tail on the donkey/ unicorn/ animal. The player who pins their tail closest to the target, wins.
Tips: Match the printout to the theme of the party or event. Let the kids colour in the printout if you need to kill some time.
Recommended setting: Indoors or outdoors with a blank wall.
Materials required: Blindfold, drawing of the animal, tails/ horns/ spots to pin and prestik.

After splitting into two teams have children line up in two lines. Have each member of a team hold hands and tell them not to let go. Teams then try and get the hula hoop from one end of the line to the other and then back again without letting go of their hands. This game is silly and fun!
